Do you know how to lead climb at the gym, but want to take the next step and climb outside? Come learn the next step: Building + Cleaning Sport Anchors! Aka anchors with various metal bolts at the top, that you 1) don't put your rope on while you top rope, but 2) You then need to somehow get your rope through when you’re done so you can walk away with all your draws and stuff.

To help folks learn these skills we will be hosting a TWO PART learning experience.

The first will be a mandatory technical review session on Tuesday, October 1st from 7-9pm at the MITOC Office located in the Stratton Student Center, W20-461. We will go over what you need to know for lead climbing outside + building & cleaning anchors, including on the ground practice. You must attend this lecture if you want to go on the trip Saturday. You can also come at 6:30 pm if you need to rent gear as well.

On Saturday 10/5 we will meet at the Rumney parking lot by 8am and go climb! We will stick to easier, beginner climbing areas, to keep the focus on practicing these critical skills. No one will be required to clean a sport anchor if they feel unsure or ready, but if you are ready opportunities will be available. We will wrap up by ~3-4pm.

This trip is aimed at those who already know how to lead climb in the gym. If you have not yet passed a lead test, please look into other events like gym nights, crag days, or circuses hosted by the MITOC community.

If you have any questions please email the leaders.
